Our Busy Lives 10/24/2011
When I realized I hadn't posted anything in September and October is nearly gone it made me realize that we all lead busy lives. Initially I thought that summer had to be the busiest time of year for everyone. The kids are out of school and there are vacations, camps, and other activities that seem to take up every minute. Then I started thinking about the other times of year when it feels as if we don't have enough hours in the day. There's the rush of the "back-to-school season" when shopping for clothes & supplies seems to go on forever. At that time of year we probably look back on the vacation months as an easy time. We think this must be the busiest time of our year. Just as things are falling into a routine, Halloween is upon us. Kids want the best costumes - which always involve more creativity and talent than we think we have to offer. Spooky decorations go up and pumpkins are carved. There are school parties that require us to bake 36 delicious, perfectly decorated cupcakes and adult parties that mean we have to have our own amazing costumes. And, after that one night, we have all the clean up to do. We start thinking that Halloween is the busiest time even though it's "only one night." Next comes the "holiday season" and nothing seems to compare. First we're readying everything for Thanksgiving and before that's really behind us we're getting into Christmas/Chanukah season. We're out grocery shopping and gift shopping for what seems like 18 hours a day. Everyone has a list of chores to get the house ready for all the holiday guests. We have to clean and decorate and cook. Then, of course, we have to clean up from all the cleaning, decorating, and cooking. New Year's isn't quite as bad. At least it usually doesn't require a costume. It does require a spotless home and great food, more decorations, and party favors. Where would we be without those little paper whistle things we blow at midnight? Inevitably, after the old year has been rung out and the new one rung in, comes the cleaning. Valentine's Day isn't so bad, right? Just more baking for school and rushing out to find the right cards for the kids to pass out and for us to give our loved ones. Maybe a romantic dinner for two (or 12) needs to be planned and cooked. And, naturally, we have to put up paper hearts and cupids in the windows. Then we have to take them down. "But," we think, "It's all done now." Really? What about St. Patrick's Day? How about Easter? Passover, anyone? It never really ends. And I, for one, wouldn't change a thing! Yes, it feels as if we're always getting done with one thing just to start the next. We wonder if we'll ever finish getting ready for or cleaning up from the current event. But the time we spend with our families and friends during all these times makes our lives not just busy but worth living. Now it's time for the next shameless plug! For most parents the start of the new school year is the most wonderful time of the year. The school shopping is done, the vacations are over, and routines are re-established. You can almost relax once school is back in. I remember when my own kids were young and the new school year was always so exciting. There was the sticker-shock (and size-shock) of new school clothes. I marveled at the extensive lists of supplies the teachers mailed out every year and knew that, in addition to what the teachers expected, the kids would also expect lots of cool new things. Who would dream of showing up with last year's backpack? The first day was always hectic. In spite of hours of laying out supplies and packing and re-packing backpacks someone always lost something. It seemed to take forever for those first day clothes to make it on to the kids and breakfast was chaotic. The kids always wanted to go out early and buses always showed up fantastically late. Then, after the bus had finally picked up the kids and disappeared over the hill there was a brief celebration followed by the wish that summer had lasted longer and the kids were still playing in the fields. Every year I was surprised to find that I missed them. Now my kids are grown and have their own lives. Sometimes months go by between visits. Phone calls just aren't the same as being able to hug your kids. I find myself watching parents being pulled down the aisles of stores and longing for the days when my kids were still school age. It may be the most wonderful time of the year but we should always treasure every moment with our kids It seems that everyone is busy! People are going on vacation and a lot of our customers are already doing the dreaded school shopping. How do they come up with those lists that parents "must" provide? Personally, I'm getting in the mood to do some very early Autumn cleaning. The urge hits me several times a year and my family cringes when I get that look. It's not just general cleaning of which I dream. It's that deep down "get rid of everything you haven't used in a year" kind. I have visions of walls being washed and carpets being steam-cleaned. I've actually done a white glove test after this kind of cleaning. I'm a little surprised my family hasn't put me by the road with a "free to good home" sign. The great thing is that I use C-Thru Windows for most of the cleaning! I have my windows cleaned, all dead tree limbs removed, walls washed, and my vinyl siding power washed. I haven't been able to talk them into sorting through my old clothes but they do pretty much everything else! If you find you're getting the cleaning bug just email: scheduling@mi-cthruwindows.com But remember...I'm going to keep those guys pretty bus Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer 07/15/2011
Are you old enough to recognize the title words? If so, you're somewhere in the age range of our Scheduler, Beth. If not....ahh, to be young again! With the summer months come all the outdoor activities. Barbecues, swimming, or just hanging around the backyard. It's also a great time to spruce up the siding, decks, and landscaping around the house! Yes, this is a blatant plug for our services! :) But summer is a great time to have the siding or stonework on your home power washed. You should also consider that a deck that is washed and sealed every couple of years will really outlast one that is neglected. Summer is also a great time to let the sun shine in by having your windows washed! Don't forget our discounts! We offer them for monthly, bi-monthly, and quarterly customers as well as for referrals that generate a service call. Those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer 07/15/2011
